Piet Hoogesteger in 1955, specializing in the import and export of bananas and citrus fruits in Holland, discovered a demand for lemon peels to make lemon liqueur. Piet Hoogesteger began selling this product to Bols, a Dutch liquor distillery.
When selling lemon peels, he thought of making orange juice with peeled oranges. Over time, he implemented his idea. Using the orange with the skin result as giving a bitter taste to the juice. The process of peeling the fruits before making the juices reduces the bitterness and gives them this excellent taste.
Soon he contracted an important client: the Hilton hotel at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. It was how the juice factory was born and how he gained luxury customers in the hospitality sector and catering, as KLM and H.M.S. Host followed soon after.
His son Bert Hoogesteger also had many years of experience in the import and export of fruits. In 1988 he created his own factory in Holland called A.L. Hoogesteger Fresh Specialist.
The company opened to other markets and began distributing their juices to the largest supermarket in the Netherlands, Albert Heijn and luxury hotels like the Hotel Amstel, the K.L.M and the Hilton hotel.
Saskia Hoogesteger, Bert’s daughter, also worked for some years in the Dutch juice factory. With a true dedicated passion for juices and healthy lifestyle, in 2013 Saskia opened in Barcelona city center Zzumo mas, “more than just a juice”.
With all the knowledge previously acquired during years in juice industry, Zzumo mas is now able to make the best, tastiest and high quality fresh juices at the moment. And still using the process of peeling the oranges to have the best orange juice in Barcelona.
